Edgar Allen Poe's classic story was realized as a cartoon by the United Productions of America in 1953. It was narrated by James Mason and directed by Ted Parmelee, and nominated for an Academy Award in 1954. In 2001 it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry as a culturally significant film.
